Spanish time is one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland, and the same as most of Western Europe.
What to include in your first message
You do not need to prepare anything to get in touch. But if you already have these to hand, it saves a round of questions and lets us give you a straight answer sooner:
- What happened and when. Dates matter more than anything else, because most Spanish deadlines run from a specific event.
- Any document you have received, even if you cannot read it. A photograph of the first page is usually enough for us to identify what it is.
- Whether anyone has already acted for you on the same matter, and whether anything has been filed.
- Where you are. Whether you are in Spain or abroad changes how we organise the practical steps, not whether we can act.
Frequently asked questions
Will someone reply in English?
Yes. We handle these matters in English throughout: correspondence, explanations of the procedure and the advice itself. Court filings and notarial deeds are in Spanish because Spanish law requires it, and we explain what each one says before you sign.
How quickly will you answer?
Within one working day in normal circumstances. If you are up against a deadline, say so in the first line of your message and we will treat it accordingly.
Does an initial enquiry commit me to anything?
No. We tell you what we think, what it would cost and what the deadline is, in writing, and you decide from there.
Can you act for me if I am not in Spain?
Yes. Most matters can be handled under a power of attorney signed at a Spanish consulate, or before a notary in your own country with an apostille. Inheritance, property sales, banking claims and most litigation are routinely run this way.
Do you take cases outside Alicante province?
We act throughout Alicante province as a matter of course. Beyond it, it depends on the matter: some things can be run from anywhere, others need a lawyer on the ground. We will tell you honestly which yours is rather than take it and struggle.
Before you instruct anyone in Spain
